Music
Music is a very important part of the life of our parish. It is an
integral part of our worship services, and our music ministry extends
to concerts that we offer to the community.
Music at Our Worship Services
We have a beautiful pipe organ and a grand piano, both of which are
used during most services. Our choir performs under the direction
of the Music Director. Amy Duran is Interim
Music Director while we undertake a search for a new Music Director and
Organist. The choir sings at the 10:15 AM Sunday service and
at nearly every special service. The choir welcomes new
members. Rehearsals are on Thursday evening at 7:45 PM and on
Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM (except during July and
August). Parishioners who, due to personal
commitments, may not be able to attend Thursday choir practices are
invited to attend the Sunday morning rehearsal and then sing at the
10:15 AM service.
Concerts
Throughout the year St. Andrew’s holds musical events in
the sanctuary. These have included classical, instrumental,
jazz, and vocal programs, as well as free children’s concerts.
Funds raised from many of these events have been used to support our
outreach programs as well as a recent organ restoration program.
An Evening of Chamber Music
On February 15, 2010, St. Andrew’s presented An Evening of Chamber
Music starring Amy Duran and other musicians from Broadway.
Amy and her friends, who have performed at St. Andrew’s many times, are
currently performing in a number of venues on Broadway and once again
generously donated their time to perform at St. Andrew’s.
All proceeds from the event were donated to the Interreligious
Fellowship for the Homeless of Bergen County (now Family Promise of
Bergen County). Additionally, the attendees were asked to
bring non-perishable food items, which were donated to the food pantry
in Harrington Park.
