Harrington Park Town Day

On September 11, 2016, St. Andrew’s participated in Harrington Park Town Day, held at Highland Field in Harrington Park (on Tappan Road). Many people from the congregation stepped up and helped out in some way – brainstorming, building, set up, take down, day of event, etc. Our motto for the day was “Dreaming with our Neighbors”.

On the day of the event, we all wore our blue St. Andrew’s t-shirts with our motto printed on them. Pencils with our motto printed on them were also given to many people at the event. And we had several flyers available for people to take home, describing upcoming concerts, fish-n- chips dinner, church services, etc. Kids were welcome to stop by to have a free glitter tattoo applied (there were several adults who participated in this part of the day, too).

But, the “Big Draw” was the Dream Board, where people could stop by and write down their hopes and dreams for their community. Our Dream Board was designed and constructed by John King — it is truly a work of art, on its own. It is basically a large easel covered by a large scroll of paper. The Going Local team worked with the Town Day Committee in implementing the Dream Board. At Harrington Park Town Day, passers-by were invited to share their dreams for their community. Over 20 feet of dreams were collected that day, from people of all ages — kids to senior citizens.

The Going Local team continues to use the Dream Board to collect dreams, and is sharing these dreams with the congregation and with others in our community. Please see the Going Local report for more details.
